2-year-old survives 15-story fall from Silver Spring apartment building balcony

A -year-old boy fell off a th-floor balcony at an apartment building in Silver Spring Maryland on Thursday and miraculously survived Around p m Thursday Montgomery County Fire and Rescue System personnel responded to the Enclave apartment building in the block of Oak Leaf Drive in White Oak for reports of a child falling The boy had fallen into an area with mulch and bushes below and was transported to a hospital with a broken arm and multiple internal injuries police announced Lieutenant Rebecca Innocenti with Montgomery County police stated WTOP it was a chaotic scene when officers responded to the scene It was certainly scary for everyone the family members she mentioned I was able to speak with one family member who was in disbelief and trying to go through his mind about what occurred how it occurred and just kept saying that he was thankful that the child was not seriously injured She went up to the balcony where the child had fallen from and revealed she thought It s quite incredible that this child did not suffer any life threatening injuries Innocenti cautioned residents to not keep patio doors or low windows open even when the weather is nice at the exposure of a child falling through it I think it s a good reminder for all of us especially with these summer months we do have our balcony doors open and our windows that we have to be mindful of the little ones that might not realize the danger that lurks below she disclosed Police mentioned in a announcement they are analyzing how the boy fell but no criminal charges have been filed at this time Below is the area where it happened Courtesy Google Maps WTOP s Nick Iannelli contributed to this assessment Source
